President Obama today proclaimed himself in good spirits as he prepared to depart the Virginia resort where he has been prepping for his debate this evening with Gov. Mitt Romney.
Obama bantered a bit with reporters has he strolled by for a photo op along with White House political adviser David Plouffe and former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, who played moderator Candy Crowley during debate rehearsals.
From the pool report:
Reporter: “How are you feeling about tonight?”
Obama, smiling: “I feel fabulous. Look at this beautiful day.”
Reporter: “Are you aware Michelle voted for you yesterday?”
Obama, turning to yell back: “Thank goodness!”
But Obama clammed up when asked whether Hillary Clinton was to blame for the killing of U.S. officials at the consulate in Benghazi, ignoring the question and putting an end the the brief exchange with reporters.
Clinton Monday took responsibility for the tragedy, a move that seemed in part designed to deflect blame from Obama on the eve of tonight’s debate, which focuses on foreign policy.
The debate is at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Obama has been practicing at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
