Just another day with NO Presidential “Daily” briefing. Last night when I saw the (non)schedule for today, I was going to comment on that and ask if anyone could even recall the last time Obummer had a PDB. It seems as if Obummer has only had a handful of them these last couple of months. So, it was interesting to see on Drudge today that Marc Thiessen has a column about that:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-is-obama-skipping-more-than-half-of-his-daily-intelligence-meetings/2012/09/10/6624afe8-fb49-11e1-b153-218509a954e1_story.html

Why is Obama skipping more than half of his daily intelligence meetings?

By Marc A. Thiessen, Monday, September 10, 10:41 AM

President Obama is touting his foreign policy experience on the campaign trail, but startling new statistics suggest that national security has not necessarily been the personal priority the president makes it out to be. It turns out that more than half the time, the commander in chief does not attend his daily intelligence meeting.

The Government Accountability Institute, a new conservative investigative research organization, examined President Obama’s schedule from the day he took office until mid-June 2012, to see how often he attended his Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) — the meeting at which he is briefed on the most critical intelligence threats to the country. During his first 1,225 days in office, Obama attended his PDB just 536 times — or 43.8 percent of the time. During 2011 and the first half of 2012, his attendance became even less frequent — falling to just over 38 percent. By contrast, Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush almost never missed his daily intelligence meeting.

Sadie September 10, 2012 at 11:59 pm

Carney was asked about that in the last press briefing. Seems as though, he gets the “info” on paper. That’s right. He reads it. But who knows if he’s reading it at all – reading certainly precludes questions and an exchange. Feh!

SnarkEsq. September 11, 2012 at 2:33 am

Exactly, Sadie. Thiessen’s article goes inot that, beyond just the excerpt I have above. In part:

I asked National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor about the findings, and whether there were any instances where the president attended the intelligence meeting that were not on his public schedule. Vietor did not dispute the numbers, but said the fact that the president, during a time of war, does not attend his daily intelligence meeting on a daily basis is “not particularly interesting or useful.” He says that the president reads his PDB every day, and he disagreed with the suggestion that there is any difference whatsoever between simply reading the briefing book and having an interactive discussion of its contents with top national security and intelligence officials where the president can probe assumptions and ask questions. “I actually don’t agree at all,” Vietor told me in an e-mail, “The president gets the information he needs from the intelligence community each day.”

Yet Vietor also directed me to a Post story written this year in which Obama officials discuss the importance of the intelligence meeting and extol how brilliantly the president runs it. “Obama reads the PDB ahead of time and comes to the morning meeting with questions. Intelligence briefers are there to answer those questions, expand on a point or raise a new issue,” The Post reported. “One regular participant in the roughly 500 Oval Office sessions during Obama’s presidency said the meetings show a president consistently participating in an exploration of foreign policy and intelligence issues.”

Not so consistently, it seems. Since Obama officials have actively promoted the way the president runs his daily intelligence meeting as evidence of his national security leadership (even releasing a photo of him receiving the briefing on an iPad), it is fair to ask why he skips the daily meeting so often.

According to former officials who have detailed knowledge of the PDB process, having the daily meeting — and not just reading the briefing book — is enormously important both for the president and those who prepare the brief. For the president, the meeting is an opportunity to ask questions of the briefers, probe assumptions and request additional information. For those preparing the brief, meeting with the president on a daily basis gives them vital, direct feedback from the commander in chief about what is on his mind, how they can be more responsive to his needs, and what information he may have to feed back into the intelligence process. This process cannot be replicated on paper.

(The article continues on a bit after that)

FOX repeated their special on 9/11 in the last few days. It follows the timeline of the attacks and has interviews with some of the survivors.
There have been many TV specials about the 9/11 attacks, from noted engineers explaining how and why the Towers collapsed, to following the movements of the terrorists.

There are millions of Americans who never saw or experienced that day, or were too young at the time to understand what happened. They can’t possibly understand what happened next.
Ten years of war, thousands more died and nothing was gained. There is no peace, no surrender, just more and more deaths.
A moment of silence is not good enough to commemorate the unprovoked attack on Americans. It’s not enough to honor our soldiers with medals or promise of jobs after their service, if the medals don’t mean anything or there are no jobs for them. A moment of silence won’t help the disabled, the severly wounded who served our country trying to keep terrorism from our shores.

Sadie September 11, 2012 at 12:29 am

Amen srdem. I really have never understood the mindset of politicians and the military insisting on PC guidelines with a rifle. September 11, 2001 was a culmination of 40 years of attacks. Even the FBI is out of touch. From their website the following:

“It was Friday, February 26, 1993, and Middle Eastern terrorism had arrived on American soil—with a bang.”

All anyone has to do is read the list (below) and know that it’s 40 years of attacks, a slow drip, drip, drip ignored, pushed under the carpet. Universities inundated with Saudi money for departments of Islamic Studies/Culture/Language.What crap. The Saudis are funding impressionable and naive students, so that they will one day begin to color the politics and decisions in foreign policy. Guess what, they’re succeeding. If they weren’t the PC guidelines would have never gone to press. There will always be external rot – it’s the internal rot, that’s the real danger, i.e., Nidal Hassan.

Keith, thanks a lot for your post yesterday, “Did you hear ? Obama is going to win “. I read it this morning and it made my morning brighter even though it´s 9/11 again.

From Weasel Zippers – no surprise:

http://weaselzippers.us/2012/09/10/obamas-911-proclamation-does-not-mention-god/

Obama’s 9/11 Proclamation Does Not Mention God…

Via Fox News’ Todd Starnes – http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/obamas-9-11-proclamation-does-not-mention-god.html

President Obama’s proclamation marking the September 11th terrorist attacks did not include any mention of God. The president also failed to note how Americans sought solace in their religion in the aftermath of the Al-Qaeda attacks.

“But as we mark the anniversary of September 11, we remember what remains the same: our character as a nation, our faith in one another, and our legacy as a country strengthened by service and selflessness,” the president wrote.

Instead, the president called on Americans to participate in community service to honor those who were lost.

There was no specific mention of prayer but he did call for the nation to observe a moment of silence tomorrow morning.

The proclamation comes one week after Democrats meeting in Charlotte initially removed God from their party platform. The Almighty was subsequently reinstated after a questionable vote that led some delegates to boo the Lord.

GotFreedom September 11, 2012 at 10:35 am

Why does “service” come before “remembrance” in his proclamation (rhetorical, we know why)?

9/11 IS NOT A DAY OF SERVICE. . .IT WILL NEVER BE A DAY OF SERVICE NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO FORCE YOUR SOCIALIST AGENDA ON US! (sorry for yelling. . .not at all of you but at the ignoramus in the WH).

God Bless America!
God Bless all those who died needlessly on 9/11!
God Bless the families and friends of those killed on 9/11!
God Bless our military who sacrifice everyday for our rights and freedoms!
In God We Trust . . .and we will always remain. . .One Nation Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All.”

(and P.S. BHO, justice will be served on November 6, 2012)

SnarkEsq. September 11, 2012 at 12:14 pm

GotFreedom: “9/11 IS NOT A DAY OF SERVICE. . .IT WILL NEVER BE A DAY OF SERVICE NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO FORCE YOUR SOCIALIST AGENDA ON US! (sorry for yelling. . .not at all of you but at the ignoramus in the WH).”

GotFreedom – I SO agree with you! This has been infuriating me for years, how King Obummer unilaterally decided that 9/11 would be a “day of service”, rather then one of solemn remembrance. He just wants to take the focus off of the horrific events of the day and as Susan said, the unity that all Americans felt in the aftermath. That’s fine of one wants to do “community service”, but that should be entirely separate from 9/11. This better be the last year that we hear anything about “service” in connection with 9/11.

Susan September 11, 2012 at 10:50 am

It has been his goal from the beginning to dissolve that bond of unity that all Americans felt after the Islamic terrorist attacks on 9/11. That was a day that brought all Americans together, no matter our religious beliefs or political leanings. Doesn’t matter how many proclamations he issues, he can not change the spirit of America.

My husband and I just watched a flyover of WWII airplanes over the lake near our home. What a beautiful sight. Every year on 9/11 our community joins together to remember what happened on that day in 2001. We will never forget. God bless America.

Wow! 2 days in a row without cash grabbing? It’s a miracle!

God Bless the 9/11 warriors and their survivors!

He’s hitting the road tomorrow for a two day swing to Las Vegas, Nevada and Denver, Colorado (Wednesday), and then Arvada, Colorado (Thursday).

Oh, the bitter irony! On the morning of the 11th anniversary of the radical Islamic terrorist attack and massacre of 3000 Americans, we learn that the pseudo Commander-in-Chief has been ignoring his daily intelligence briefings! WTH!

Eternal God, / Source and Creator of Life; / From the depths we have called to you / and we call to you again for courage, strength and wisdom on this anniversary of our nation’s tragedy.

Grant us courage to confront our enemies. / Comfort those who stand alone without spouse, parent, brother, sister, or friend. / Open our hearts to them and to the children orphaned ten years ago today. / Enable us to love more deeply all children who suffer. / Accept with mercy our prayers of healing on behalf of the families of the victims / and on behalf of the first responders who became ill at Ground Zero.

Despite the horror and tragedy of 9/11, / our country remains a shelter of peace, / a symbol of freedom, / a beacon light of compassion and justice / to the downtrodden and oppressed of the world.

Strengthen the hands of our people to defend this country / and our common values of freedom and justice. / Inspire our leaders and diplomats / to act wisely and to pursue peace everywhere in the world.

May we teach our children to learn and to think, / To consider and to reason, / To be courageous in thought and in deed, / And to nurture hearts of wisdom / That they may do battle against fear, hatred and bigotry / Using weapons of the spirit and loving hearts.

We offer our prayers / on behalf of our country and government, our President and judiciary, / our officials and institutions, our soldiers and citizens, / upon all who faithfully toil for the good of our country, to preserve democracy in our land, / to advocate for civility between adversaries, and to treat every human being / as infinitely worthy and dignified / by virtue of being created / B’tzelem Elohim, in the Divine image.

Bestow upon us all the blessings of peace, / and may we live to see the day / when swords will be converted into plowshares / and nations will not learn war anymore. / Amen!

It’s all about Ohio, Keith. The Romney camp is worried – their internal polling shows Romney down by as many as 9 points. Someone on Morning Joe this a.m. quoted Richard Nixon as saying: “You campaign for President as if you were running for Governor of Ohio”. Romney can still win without Ohio but he’s going to have to win just about everything else. Unfortunately, Obama has put NV, CO, and FLA into play with his bogus Dreamer amnesty for 2M illegals. The good news is…Obama’s polling with the Jewish vote is the lowest since Jimmy Carter. Hope he can save
FLA!

Girly1 September 11, 2012 at 8:06 am

….ooops.. sorry, wrong thread, Keith.

Conservative61 September 11, 2012 at 11:14 am

But…But..I thought BOTH candidates said they would not campaign today, out of respect. I know what Obama’s “schedule” says, but when has he ever missed an opportunity to campaign, AKA as blowin’ his own horn?

Star September 11, 2012 at 3:36 pm

Axelrude tweeted some sarcastic thing about a Romney donor getting a big tax break.

cincycinco September 11, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I realize he is the only “President” we have, and as such, some believe his office, if not himself, “honors” those who suffered and died by his presence. My heart goes out to those people, who only want to know that the country still remembers.

Still, I can’t help but feel like shouting “HOW DARE YOU PROFANE THIS PLACE WITH YOUR PRESENCE!” every time he appoaches a 9/11 site for his ceremonial photo op and election year posing. Anything he says or does at such a place and time is a complete fraud, calculated only as it pertains to help in keeping him in office.

Obama has nothing but comtempt for the business people who were only trying to earn a living in those towers on that day; no concept of the bravery it took for the firefighters to even enter those structures on that day; no clue as to the sense of duty that sustained those police officers that day, even unto death; and no – absolutely no – grasp of the honor of the military personnel that bled and died in the Pentagon that day, or those that came after and labored for days to rescue survivors, and retrieve what they could of the deceased for the comfort of their families.

As to the military, it’s disgusting that they even have to salute such a one as he. That takes a real sense of honor and duty just to do that.

Perhaps it would be best for everyone if Obama just took out his prayer rug and trundled himself over the two blocks to the celebratory mosque that was built to “honor” the “Islamic victory” of 9/11, the Cordoba House. There, he could dig on the soothing sounds of the call to prayer he loves so much, and mediate with fellow believers on what they can destroy for Islam that would be even more shocking than this. At least it would keep him away from decent people in a time of REMEMBERANCE and PRAYER (NOT “service”), and would be the first honest thing he’s done since he left Indonesia.

Oh well, maybe he can do that AFTER the election, when he has more “flexibility”.

Sorry if this tone is a little harsh, but I lost 343 brothers on 9/11, so it’s a little personal for me. Watching that prating fool try to further his career over their bones is almost unbearable.

God bless the 9/11 survivors. God bless the families of those who did not come home. God protect this country, and God save us from Obama, that the sacrifice of those we remember today is not made in vain.

Langley Spook September 11, 2012 at 3:13 pm

I keep hearing that Obama was simply ‘absent’ when 4 Americans were sodomized and murdered in Benghazi. I read on the Internet where he was in Las Vega attending a show w/ a rapper “Magic”. He even allegedly made the statement “I hope some of his ‘magic’ rubs off on me.”
In other words, Obama was ‘fiddling while Bengazi burned’. I hope to God he is held accountable for it. If one of those Americans were my son,
Heaven help both Obama and Hillary. This administration is corrupt to the core and seems to be untouchable but they will be touched either now or when they stand before almighty God on their judgment day.
