Obama Plays the Race Card

by Keith Koffler on January 10, 2012, 10:55 am

At a Washington fundraiser Monday night, President Obama subtly played the race card, suggesting that Republican presidential candidates would deny people opportunity based on the color of their skin.

Here’s what the president said during the event before what a press pool reporter described as “an enthusiastic crowd of young supporters in ballroom of Capital Hilton Hotel.”

Everything we fought for during the last election is at stake in this election. The very core of what this country stands for is on the line — the basic promise that no matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, this is a place where you could make it if you try.  The notion that we’re all in this together, that we look out for one another — that’s at stake in this election.  Don’t take my word for it.  Watch some of these debates that have been going on up in New Hampshire.

The phrase “no matter what you look like” is a clear reference to race. Obama is indicating that if he loses the election, opportunity for those who are a certain color or ethnicity will be denied. He completes the thought by pointing to the debates in New Hampshire, associating the Republican candidates with the possibility of racial or ethnic discrimination.

This is not the first time Obama has used such a formulation. In remarks Oct. 12 to a group of Latinos, Obama said:

I believe America should be a place where you can always make it if you try; a place where every child, no matter what they look like, where they come from, should have a chance to succeed . . . I still believe in that America.  I believe we can be that America again.

The implication here is that under George W. Bush, America became less of a place where one could make it “no matter what they look like.”

Michelle Obama, during an October fundraiser, also suggested Republican victory would lead to discrimination.

Will we be a country where opportunity is limited to just the few at the top?  Or will we give every child — every child  — a chance to succeed, no matter where she’s from, or what she looks like, or how much money her parents are?  Who are we?  That’s what’s at stake here.

Obama’s comments Monday night are the latest sign that race, which Obama – much to his credit – and others were successful in minimizing as an issue in 2008, will become an unfortunate part of the 2012 campaign.

Some, including the Wall Street Journal, have accused Attorney General Eric Holder of practicing racial politics by attacking state voter ID laws as harmful to minorities. New York Times editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal last week ascribed racial motivations to political attacks by Republicans against Obama. Rosenthal and others have suggested that Republican candidates are sinisterly using code words for race in their remarks.

When you play the race card, it’s because there’s nothing else in your hand. But I think we all knew this would have to happen.

Is there really any question Obama would say and do anything to win the next election? He has danced around the race card ever since the 2008 election season. Since then,, his surrogates, operatives, supporters and political hacks cry racism every time this poor excuse of a President is criticized.

I am sick of this and this is not reflective of the heart and soul of real Americans.

Racist. R.A.C.I.S.T. racist. r-a-c-i-s-t. Anti-Black. Anti-gay. Anti-illegals.
Anti-every-dam-thing. Repubs hate everyone according to our President.

Dems love and embrace everyone, except White, Irish/European, Christians , supporters of Israel, successful businessmen and women, pro-life supporters, and anyone who disagrees with their values according to our President.
“Our President” is the key phrase and it would be wise if MrObama would recognize that a class, race, and economic divide among Americans will not serve him or us well.
MrsObama once called the WhiteHouse the “people’s house”, and she was right.
The “people” are weary of the irritating and outrageous occupants who have abused our hospitality and pocketbook. Asking us to allow them to stay another 4 years because they claim to have more to do to us and not to allow them to stay would be “racist” doesn’t make a good argument.

I remember the Watts riots and all the other one’s we have had in this country fueled by the same kind of language. I hope the people understand O’Bama is playing with a powderkeg that just may very well EXPLODE in all our faces. If that happens, we may never have internal peace in our country. For a couple of reasons: When you only have to convince people who can tell you what George Clooney’s high school mascot was but can’t tell you who fought in the Revolutionary War, regard people who use plastic bags at the grocery as equivalent to pedophiles -it’s an easy sell to the “I’d rather amputate a leg than be called racist” crowd. It’s the old Bill Cosby gag. I’ll find it and post later.

I disagree that Obama and his people Obama “were successful in minimizing [race] as an issue in 2008,” Keith. Don’t you remember his “he doesn’t like look the guys on the dollar bills” quote? Don’t you remember how any criticism, and attempt to investigate him was openly or tacitly smeared with implications of racism?

The difference is that last time appeaing to suppress race as an issue served the Dems’ needs by suppressing any real investigation of or discussion about “The One.” This time it serves their interests, so, The One and The Wife will be waving the card at ever turn.

How amusing that it has now warped into the “what you look like” card.

Some already are. It’s called Work Opportunities Tax Credits. If you’re white, male, over 50, have no criminal record, accepted no public aid other than unemployment benefits, never used drugs, and are willing to take a drug test, your chances for employment plunge because none of those demographics are a protected class. And, yes, some employers will admit as much off the record.

When I was a straight white male working to put myself through engineering school, I stared at the financial aid bulletin board for long periods of time hoping to find some aid that wasn’t reserved for some sort of minority. I never did. If I were a female american indian lesbian pig farmer, I would have been set. I put myself through school on my own dime. I can’t stomach anybody talking about how they lack opportunity, especially minorities.

Undoubtedly, BHO/MO have never heard the saying, “When You Point A Finger At Someone Remember You Have 3 Pointing Back At You”. Stop calling us racists for doing our duty as citizens of this great country because we question your administration’s policies; your excessive spending/partying/vacations when so many Americans are out of work and our country is going down hill fast!!!

Obviously, racism is something they have engaged in for quite some time:

“When Michelle Obama worked in Mayor Daley’s City Hall in the early 1990s, she was “distressed” by how a small group of “white Irish Catholic” families — the Daleys, the Hynes and the Madigans — “locked up” power in Illinois. . .Mrs. Obama worked in the Daley administration between Sept. 16, 1991, and April 30, 1993, according to City of Chicago personnel records. . .She particularly resented the way power in Illinois was locked up generation after generation by a small group of families, all white Irish Catholic — the Daleys in Chicago, the Hynes and Madigans statewide.”
http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012/01/michelle_obama_distressed_abou.html

So why is it alright for BHO/MO to make such ignorant remarks and no one calls them out on them, but when you or I question the administration’s policies; their partying/vacations, etc. we are called “racists”?

GotFreedom, you are correct.

If you want to get really ticked off, read “Injustice: Exposing the Racial Agenda of the Obama Justice Department” J.Christian Adams. This will explain why the blacks believe they are above the law and how the DOJ only thinks that the law is for those cases wher the blacks are disctiminated against, not when they discriminate and how Barry is very much pushing this in the DOJ and especially the Voting Rights Department.

Barak Obama has had the ultimate opportunity of anyone in our country of any color or background, he became President of the United States. If he had done a great job and been successful there would be no need for him to “play the race card” in fear that he is a failure and will not be back for a second term. The handwriting is on the wall, do the math, read the tea leaves, face the music, get over it, move on. Every day in every way thinking people must admit that this president has been bad for our country. I look at my finances. When my debts total more than I take in I know I am in deep trouble….play it forward. It means the same thing when you do that to a country. Every American should ask themselves whether they are better off now than they were when Barak Obama took office – no excuses, no double talk, no blurred vision – just say yes or no, are you better off. ‘Nuff said. Barak Obama has had his chance…..next.

If Obama really wanted to help minorities, he would repeal the drug war which has unjustly incarcerated more minorities than any other law. Legalize drugs and treat it like alcohol – which is a deadlier drug than all the others, which have some medicinal effect. Bring back our troops – where in the Constitution does it say to fund or defend any nation but our own? These are the issues Dr. Paul addresses – NO OTHER CANDIDATE understands the basic issues of civil liberties. Dr. Paul for president, 2012.

Here is REALITY. A vast majority of black americans want to live their lives like all Americans. However, they are caught in theis virtual circle called “the struggle”. The struggle means no matter where you are, as soon as you get comfortable, your “people” will demonize you as an Uncle Tom. You become an enemy. So they are sucked into this vortex of hate to show they belong.

Another thing I noticed is that most legal / green card Latinos / Hispanics hate Obama. They believe they are / want to be just like white america. In fact, many of them consider themselves “white americans”. The whole effort by Obama and the violent, mentally ill, evil and immoral progressive / socialist / communist / aethist / secularist / humanist wack jobs is to attempt to keep the “brown man” under their wing. They KNOW every immigrant group (irish, italian, german and now a growing number of asians) have discovered that they are liars and inherently evil. When Obama losses this year, watch how violent the inner cities become that night. Remember this post. These people are evil.

Well let’s be honest, the republican party has a long way to go before they can claim they’re free of racism. You guys have hated on Obama within minutes of his swearing in and have kept up the hate throughout his time as president. Obama aside, Gwinnett County in GA a southern republican stronghold used slave beatings in math problems for crying out loud. I watched a youtube video just yesterday of Arizona girls filming themselves raging on bout Hispanics in a hateful racist manner. AZ another anti-anybody brown republican stronghold. Southern states would rather experience economic disasters than have a brown person live amongst them. Every republican candidate seems to hate people who aren’t white, straight or Christian. They might not come right out and say it but they make it perfectly clear who they think “real Americans” are. So drop the “poor me” they think I’m a racist crap and take a long hard look in the mirror.

Geoff January 10, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Mark, I think your mistake is that you can take isolated instances for any example. But you use individual anecdotes to paint the whole Republican party as racist, as though it is one of their founding principles. Well, it isn’t.
Now on the Democratic side of the aisle, you actually can cite evidence that it is a Democratic mainstay tactic to call “race card” as reply-proof accusation against anyone you disagree with even if the issue has nothing to do with race. Do I dislike Obama? Yes. Is it because of his policies? Yes. Is it because of his pigmentation? No.
I don’t like Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi’s policies either. Do I like Herman Cain’s policies? Yes, why? Because he’s black? No, because I have a conservative philosophy. Conservatives tend to use logic and reason, liberals tend to use emotion to argue with. When you can’t win in the marketplace of ideas, liberals tend to throw ad hominem attacks, trying to tear down the opponent personally because they can’t win the idealogical debate. Why do you think the media is obsessed with digging into the personal lives of the republican candidates? That can’t attack their ideas, so they attack the person.
