Obama Threatens to Veto Boehner Bill

The White House today threatened to veto the deficit reduction bill crafted by House Speaker Boehner. But let’s be clear, there’s wiggle room – it’s a threat, not a promise.

The Administration strongly opposes House passage of the amendment in the nature of a substitute to S. 627 (the Boehner bill).  If S. 627 is presented to the President, the President’s senior advisors would recommend that he veto this bill.

In the world of veto threats, “the president’s senior advisers would recommend” is a strong threat that is almost always carried out, but it’s not a definitive statement that there will be a veto.

I believe if the Boehner plan is the only game in town, Obama will claim “adult” status and sign it.

Underlining was done by the White House.

  1. This is all kabuki theater to entertain the masses. I heard Boehner give two radio interviews today and I’m sorry to say, he is selling out the conservative base of the Republican Party. His $1 trillion dollars worth of cuts over a 10 year period comes after the debt ceiling is raised. Just like Wimpy from the old Popeye cartoons…I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Tuesday never comes for these people.

Then the panel they set up…another ridiculous committee to give both sides cover for the tax increases they are surely going to recommend. Who are the 6 Republicans to be appointed? I’d place a wager that at least one RINO will be appointed who will side with 6 Democrats to raises taxes.

I’m convinced the Boehner 2-step shuffle is the plan they cooked up in their secretive, behind closed door meetings. If it gets to Obama, he will sign it and complain all the way to his vacation villa on Martha’s Vineyard.

They need to stop behaving like politicians worried about the next election and be statesmen for a change. If this country is going to survive they must cut spending NOW. No Boehner Plan, No Reid Plan, No McConnell Plan. Pass the Full Faith and Credit bill to prioritize payments to bond holders, Social Security recipients, Veterans and Active Duty military. Have another vote on Cut, Cap, and Balance, send them to the Senate and go no further.
