As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

The Obama Morning News || July 26, 2011

President Obama and House Speaker Boehner pressed their arguments in dueling prime time addresses last night.

Boehner said Obama has failed to lead on cutting government spending and that the GOP will press ahead with its own plan to raise the debt ceiling. Obama issued a grave warning against prolonging the current political stalemate and specifically called on the freshmen in the House Republican caucus to bring it to an end.

Reid’s plan faces long odds in the Senate. The House GOP is skeptical of Boehner’s proposal.

Meanwhile, the new Washington looks like the old Washington – the debt ceiling maneuverings are off limits to you and me.

U.S. officials in Mexico City urged the ATF to stop the Fast and Furious program but their superiors blocked them. A congressional report accuses ATF’s failed anti-gunrunning program of directly arming Sinaloa Cartel for “war.”

Chris Christie visited Iowa – but not as a candidate, he says. But Rick Perry is moving closer to getting in.

One in eight small business employer insurance plans got the axe since Obamacare went into effect.

Obama told La Raza that the GOP is out of step on Latino issues.

And Michelle Obama says she will never run for office.

  1. Keith, your “Meanwhile, the new Washington looks like the old Washington – the debt ceiling maneuverings are off limits to you and me.” statement really irks me. Of all of the things that I think most ‘tea partiers’ are sick and tired of is this statement.

It is time that we stop this idea of a select few that go into the old smoke filled room and make a 2,000+ page bill and then cram it down our throats just like they have been doing for the last 5 years. This illustrates how far our government has drifted away from the founding fathers intentions of each branch of government having a specific roll and duty.

Also, when are we going to have more questions to BHO or Carney about the Sal Alinsky tactic of working from a “crisis” or not “letting a good crisis go to waste”? Once again, here we are trying to make a deal in the 11th hour or things will be “bad, really bad”. All parties knew in December that this day was coming when they worked on the last debt ceiling. But yet, here we are 7 days away from the deadline.

Maybe if the prez should concentrate (oops, wake up in the morning thinking about – add in your own task) instead of golf, fund raising and road trips.

  2. Just a random thought just saw the cover of AARP magazine and gracing the cover is Michelle Obama wearing a lovely L’Wren Scott $2075 dress.
This while her husband threatens to deprive senior’s of the measly money they depend on. Mine and my mothers are together not as much as the cost of her dress. Words fail me.

    • Amen to that. I cancelled Good Housekeeping for that–and Newsweek earlier after 50 yrs. I also am sick of some Obama item on the AOL page now that The Accented One is in charge. I left AARP when they threw in on the health plan to protect their insurance business.

      • Called AARP they were rude and clueless. Gosh what a surprise must
be a real challenge to talk constantly out of both sides of your mouth!

And this is precisely the moment when small businesses put expansion plans on hold and quit hiring. We can hope that once the Republicans take charge of Congress, this monster is repealed!

  4. I’m with Russell. This is truly maddening how they take us to the brink every single time. In the end, it is a handful of politicians who hide behind closed doors to decide our fate…and we have absolutely no say in the matter. So what are our choices today? A crappy plan by John Boehner that turns over the tough decisions to a politburo. Or an even crappier plan by Harry Reid filled with smoke and mirror cuts. With all the new blood we sent to Congress, they can’t come up with something better?

Saw the same thing happen with State politics. The Republicans were given an overwhelming majority in the State house. Unfortunately, the same old RINO was elected speaker and not one single bill designed to curb the flow of illegal aliens into Texas was passed…not one.

Until the old guard is out of leadership, both in local and national politics, real change is not possible.
