Thought you might want to take a look at this video of President Obama presiding over this morning’s Easter Prayer Breakfast at the White House.
It’s interesting and rare to see Obama in a religious setting, avowing his Christianity in no uncertain terms. And this of course is the point.
Obama’s religiosity is regularly called into question – he almost never attends church – and a substantial number of Americans, though not a majority, think he is a Muslim.
What’s more, Americans of all religions like to think of their president as believing in something greater than himself.
And thus, the Easter Prayer Breakfast, established by Obama last year and declared by him today as henceforth an annual event.
I’m the naive type, and I think Obama is a Christian and wants to do this breakfast beyond reasons connected to politics. But, one might ask, where is his religious mentor, the egregious, maniacal, America-hating Jeremiah Wright? Not at the White House, that’s for sure.
OK, maybe 80 percent politics, 20 percent religion going on here. But what do I know?
On a side note, does the president not seem a little hung over from last night’s Seder and it’s legendary four cups or wine? Or maybe he’s just not a morning person. Compared to Bush, many of his events are in the afternoon, and he starts his day later.
