As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

West Wing Week – Latin America Edition

This is West Wing Week, a weekly video propaganda message put out by the White House that shows some behind and in front of the scenes footage from President Obama’s week. I put it up occasionally because it is frequently interesting in its own right. I’m fascinated by the presidency and the White House and enjoy a glimpse behind the curtain, even if it’s done to suit the White House’s purposes.

This one is particularly nice for some lovely footage of Latin America. I’m a bit surprised that, given the criticism of the trip, the video doesn’t spend more time showing Obama conducting the war with Libya, which is what he should have been doing instead of travelling.

In this video you’ll get a look at the narrator, Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest, who is viewed by many as next in line to take over the top spot once Jay Carney decides he can’t stand it anymore. And you’ll watch the Chilean first lady as she is struck with a intense bout of Obamamania.

UPDATE: One of our readers, srdem65, made such good points about this I felt they belonged in the post instead of in the comment section. He wrote:

Don’t show the public:
photos of the FirstFamily, FirstGranny, FirstGodmother climbing onto AF1.
photos of the motorcade driving thru the slums of Brazil
photos of the protesters and their anti-Obama signs
photos of the men carrying UZIs while sitting in armored vehicles
photos of the FirstFamily, et al, having a good time
photos of the elSalvador slums
photos of the Prez trying to get into the WhiteHouse
most of all, no photos of our military aiming Tomahawk missles into Libya.

    • SRDEM, your now playing in the big leagues! Keith put you up in lights! You have to get an agent, some strap hangers who tell you how good you are, two photog’s, and start ‘pimpin’ on Hollywood Boulevard…. WORD!

      • Aww, thanks, but I’m too old to change careers (currently contributing to the deficit of the Federal budget).
I revisited this site because I mentioned the video of MrO being locked out of the WhiteHouse; it never occurred to me, but it did to Chrissy the Hyphenated, WHO took that video and made it public?
The video must have been taken by someone standing near the helo that brought the FirstFamily home.
Were the locked doors a set-up by a disgruntled peon?
        Who? who are you, who?who?.

      • Keith,
One of my pet peeves is that lame old phrase, ‘Bush did it’. Before his election, Obama made a commitment to the American people that there would be no more Washington as usual under his administration. It turned out to be another lie to add to the growing list, but that is not my point. Just because Bush did something unseemly, doesn’t make it acceptable for Obama to do the same, or worse in this case. Bush didn’t have his own personal press corps paid for by taxpayers. We can not accept Obama’s actions (or his entourage) as the new norm. It sets a very dangerous precedent for future presidents.

I don’t mean to be critical. You are a talented and courageous journalist, who tells your readers the truth. It is a rare and valuable trait that very few others in the WH press corps possess.
