Obama Will Speak to the Nation on Libya Monday Night

by Keith Koffler on March 25, 2011, 6:45 pm

Obama will finally make a formal address to the country. It will be nearly two weeks too late, but it’s still welcome news. From the White House:

On Monday, March 28 at 7:30PM ET, the President will deliver an address at the National Defense University in Washington, DC to update the American people on the situation in Libya, including the actions we’ve taken with allies and partners to protect the Libyan people from the brutality of Moammar Qaddafi, the transition to NATO command and control, and our policy going forward.

UPDATE: As several of my readers have noted to this East Coaster, Obama will be speaking at 4:30 Pacific Time, while they’ll be at work. And the Mountain Timers who are either not on the 9-5 clock or have a commute won’t be tuning in either.

I don’t know, perhaps they figure they have California locked up, so they don’t care if the West Coast tunes in or not. Or maybe the same people who sent the president to Brazil instead of giving this speech a week ago are in charge of the timing . . .

Wow…Dear Leader made a speechifying ‘plan’ for Monday night? Ouch. He is taking the failure of his Final Four Barracketology (both Pitt and Duke are out) harder than I ever would have imagined.

If Ohio and or Kansas fail…look out. He will bomb Canada.

Maryb March 25, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Why wait until Monday night? It will probably take him that long to figure out what to say and to program the teleprompter.

Another bad PR move by this WH.
It will be 4:30pm here in the West when he makes his speech. Some people still have day jobs and won’t be by the TV.
Maybe he doesn’t care if people outside of his political base hear what he has to say.
Who knows what time it will be in Hawaii or Alaska?

Pitt & Duke are just like the USA, they have the curse of barack hussein obama

MaryOhSoContrary March 26, 2011 at 8:28 am

Well, add Ohio State to the list. Retaliation? Bomb Syria!

Honest, if I even LIVED in Kansas, I’d be packing a bag and driving for the border…the Curse of Bah-Rock carries some bad ju-;u!

Why the National Defense University and not West Point or the Naval Academy? Those are the young men and women he is should be asking to support another war. My guess is he doesn’t have the courage to face them. They know he is lying. He is risking this country’s blood and treasure to defend the very same terrorists they are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Whatever happened to the President sitting at his desk in the Oval Office and looking America in the eye when explaining issues of grave concern? Why must Obama always “be somewhere” when he has to do his job’s heaviest lifting?

Something tells me he doesn’t like to be alone with himself. I wonder why he wouldn’t like to be…

Susan March 25, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Excellent point. Makes me wonder as well…

Barry has to make it into an event. It would be too boring for Barry to just walk into the Oval Office and speak to the American people.

That’s not the way Barry rolls. He has to have a 30-car motorcade drive him somewhere or Air Force One/Marine fly him to his “gig. “

Keith Koffler March 26, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Much more exciting.

Anna March 28, 2011 at 1:41 am

We all know how Obama loves to spend our money…why do it at “home” when you can spend a couple hundred grand?!?!

Qestout March 25, 2011 at 11:43 pm

Meh, what will he say that we don’t know?

Star March 26, 2011 at 12:15 pm

Maybe he can tell us what WORSE THING is really happening that makes him want us to focus on this crap. I heard a brief fleck of him talking on NPR saying we prevented atrocities–they are going with that one… Still, when they say “aggressive air strikes,” does that sound like it would be good for anyone? The “rebels” (faux or real AQ, farmers, unemployed men, freedom fighters, a tribe, whoever) took a town, thanks to tanks being knocked out, this AM. We are a long way from a new govt.
