Obama Finally Has a Trade Policy

The United States and South Korea finally nailed down a deal on trade, coming to terms on what would be the largest trade pact since the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement.

With suspicion of trade growing in the country, a tough battle is ahead in Congress. We’ll see if President Obama is willing to put his political capital on the line to get it done, because the game is going to be grabbing just enough Democratic votes to add to overwhelming GOP support in order to pass the measure.

Republicans generally will fall into line, since the leadership will not want to give business officials – who strongly support the measure – the impression that it will matter little whether they back Republicans or Democrats in 2012.
