As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama Congratulates Kenya

Now this is suspicious. A statement on Kenya but no statements released recently about Hawaii.

I AM JOKING.  But I’m willing to bet a little chauvinism for the country of his father helped move this statement out the door. There aren’t typically a lot of statements out of the White House on what African countries are up to.

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                               August 27, 2010

Statement by President Obama on the Promulgation of Kenya’s New Constitution

I congratulate Kenya on the promulgation of the new constitution, which was approved by a majority of voters on August 4, 2010.  This historic approval and signing of the constitution is an important step forward, and demonstrates the commitment of Kenya’s leaders and people to a future of unity, democracy, and equal justice for all – even the powerful.  With this Constitution, the people of Kenya have set a positive example for all of Africa and the world . . .

I am disappointed that Kenya hosted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in defiance of International Criminal Court arrest warrants for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.  The Government of Kenya has committed itself to full cooperation with the ICC, and we consider it important that Kenya honor its commitments to the ICC and to international justice, along with all nations that share those responsibilities.  In Kenya and beyond, justice is a critical ingredient for lasting peace.

  1. Keith, my assumption is that the Churchill bust was returned to the UK because of the Brit’s heavy-handedness in putting down the Mau-Mau Rebellion? [ Like British imperialism, down comes the bust where it’s hurridly packaged and then FEDEXed to London to the suprise of just about everyone (press / politicians / public ) in the British capital. Bloody hell … ]

Yet Mr. Obama showed such disdain for Kenya during his first trip to Africa as President … ?

Mr. Obama has established this fascade of pan-African solidarity (none of which stands up under close scrutiny) which I find odd but for which fits neatly into the Liberal, elite, everything-is-imperialism playbook leftists work from.

    • Tom – hadn’t thought of that on the Churchill bust. Quite possibly had something to do with it. Churchill was the arch-imperialist. Think it also just has to do with Obama’s discomfort at waging war, which is a big problem since, we’re waging war.

  2. Roger that.

POTUS see’s “discomfort” in waging war. Now *that* is too much. Part of POTUS job description is Commander in Cheif, for which Mr. Obama woefully lacks any experience. He treats the military like a viral infection.

[ I remember Saul Alinksy stating that community organizers were, in part, part of ” … a greater understanding of the revolution, militant. A commander for the people, waging war against the bourgeouise, a warrior for the community.” ]
